On November 25, 2010 Markus Kalb successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled

鈥漇upporting Periodicity in Information Systems鈥�

at the University of Ulm. The DBIS team is pleased to congratulate Markus on his successful PhD defense and wishes him all the best for his future. Markus鈥� PhD advisor was Prof. Dr. Peter Dadam.
Markus鈥� thesis deals with the support of periodicity in information systems. For example, medications in a hospital often follow a periodic schema that has to be supported by the respective hospital information system. Markus developed an advanced approach for specifying such periodicities and for representing them in a finite way. Furthermore he developed a mathematical technique for the efficient comparison of periodic schemes. Markus鈥� research work was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) under funding reference P7013001.
