Financial Matters
Participation in the double degree program includes on-site studies for Ukrainian students during the 4th, 5th, and 8th semesters at Ulm University (see Program Structure).
Tuition in Germany is free of charge, but there is a mandatory student fee of approximately €80–85 per semester. In addition, students are responsible for covering accommodation (dormitory or other housing), food, transportation, and other living expenses. Dormitory costs start at around €300 per month, plus a one-time deposit of €300 upon moving in (called a Kaution). This deposit serves as a security fee in case of property damage; if everything is in order upon departure, the full amount is refunded. Such a deposit is required for any type of housing. Overall, students should plan for approximately €950–1000 per month to cover living expenses in Germany.
From 2026 to 2029, there will be an opportunity to receive funding within the framework of the DAAD project (see DAAD Support 2025–2029).
In addition, Germany offers a state financial support program for students called BAföG (Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz). Under this program, a student may receive around €950 per month if their parents’ income is low and they are not studying in Germany on a student visa.
Students residing in Germany under §24 residence status are eligible to apply for BAföG and usually receive full financial support.
Another funding option is the of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation. At Ulm University, it is awarded to exchange students from selected partner universities. Scholarship holders usually receive €800 per month for up to three or four months. Depending on the length of the stay, funding may also cover one to two exchange semesters.
Application procedure:
- Ulm University nominates candidates to the Baden-WĂĽrttemberg Foundation.
- After the nomination, students submit their application via the online portal. The following documents are required:
- a motivation letter, covering the motivation for studying abroad, voluntary, social or intercultural commitment, and identification with the goals of the foundation;
- a CV;
- a Transcript of Records.
- The final decision on funding is made by the foundation.
Only complete applications submitted by the deadline can be considered. Due to the high number of applications and limited funding, funding cannot be guaranteed for all applicants. The current application deadline and further information are available from the International Office of Ulm University: incomings(at)uni-ulm.de.
