The world of work is undergoing major changes driven by technological advances and social upheaval. When it comes to navigating these changes, one thing is particularly important: people who shape economic and social progress. That is why we must now develop the skills needed to shape a positive future for everyone. Through a forward-looking training strategy, companies can succeed in meeting their demand for skilled workers and maintaining or even enhancing their employees’ employability. However, it poses an enormous challenge for companies to provide their employees with exactly the training that both matches the employees’ interests and profiles and meets the company’s future requirements.

Against this backdrop, since January 2023 we have been developing an XAI tool in a joint project with our partner Steinbeis Innovation gGmbH, which supports companies in providing targeted further training for their employees. The tool recommends personalised training programmes, thereby enabling companies to provide their employees with targeted and individualised skills development. As AI recommendations shape future career and life paths, open up new perspectives and thus have a lasting impact on employees’ careers, it is particularly important that these recommendations can be approached in a self-determined manner. The recommendations are therefore justified using methods from the field of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI), making them comprehensible to users.
